'The Inbetweeners Movie' scores huge £2.5m opening

The Inbetweeners Movie has opened incredibly strongly in the UK taking in a phenomenal £2,584,106 from just 409 cinemas. The success has come as a surprise to many, including the cinemas themselves, as exhibitors are clambering to get in more shows.

Producer Chris Young commended everybody's efforts on the achievement saying:

We are all delighted by the response to Jay, Neil, Simon and Will’s summer holiday. We’ve been so excited for people to see the boys on the big screen and we are thrilled that the UK feels the same!

The British comedy, the first big screen outing for the E4/Channel 4 show, tells the story of four friends who struggle in their pursuit of the opposite, embarking on their first lads' holiday to Malia. In comparison to The Inbetweeners total, the first Twilight film took £1.1m on its opening day. The record figure, is unsurprisingly held by Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two, which pulled in £9m.

With an estimated budget of around £3.5m, the film could easily make its money back before the weekend begins.

While some reviews have been less than flattering to the gang, (Total Film, Time Out) others (Empire, The Guardian) felt the boys first outing had been played just right.
