Friendly Fires drummer Jack Savidge recounted seeing two large trees "snapped like twigs" on the Belgian festival site, tweeting: "Pukkelpop is not looking good. Sirens everywhere... Storm was something else."
Foo Fighters, who were due to headline the Main Stage, tweeted: "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events at Pukkelpop."
Katy B, another performer, confirmed that her set had been cancelled, writing on herTwitter page: "Cant believe the storm at Pukkelpop festival so sad that people have passed away love goes to those that are injured too."
Fleet Foxes, another band on tonight's bill, reassured fans of their safety, tweeting: "We are all safe at Pukkelpop. Crazy storm. This is awful. Hearts go out to all."
30 Seconds To Mars and The Smith Westerns, who were due to play on the collapsed stage, have also tweeted from the festival site.
A host of other bands and musicians have reacted to the news and offered their sympathies to those affected. Hurts' Theo Hutchcraft revealed he found out about the incident shortly after playing a gig at Frequency St Polten in Austria tonight. "Came off stage to the terrible news from Pukkelpop. So, so sad..." he tweeted.
Blink-182's Travis Barker also expressed his shock, tweeting: "Really sad bout Pukkelpop. Another stage collapses 2 dead & tons of people hurt. My heart goes out. Not supposed 2 happen at shows."
And Enter Shikari tweeted: "Sad news from Pukkelpop. hope any of our friends who were there are staying safe."
Reports in the local media have put the death toll at between two and six, with around 40 people thought to be injured as a result of the collapse of The Chateau and Shelter stages.
